Oriental Brush Painting
Brandy began painting the Oriental way in 1978 when a friend encouraged her to develop better brush control so she could paint free form batiks more successfully. There began a never ending passion for the simplicity, the fluidity, the expressiveness, the joy of Oriental Brush painting.
Brandy says that the secret to Oriental Brush painting is reducing the details of your subject down to the bare essence, the most simple expression while maintaining the spirit and the character of that subject.
She also finds
the Oriental technique teaches us much about composition, brush
control, observation, and painting with "chi".
In addition, Brandy just loves seeing the magic of sumi ink on rice
paper!
Brandy has visited China seven times, has participated in numerous shows and workshops and has enlisted countless new enthusiasts to the way of the Oriental Brush through demonstrations, and classes.
