Nancy Welch, VAC November 2009 Feature Artist, has been painting on and off since childhood. She always loved any school assignment that involved illustrating a story or using color in any way. She had the chance to paint with oils and pastels at that time.

However, in college she pursued other interests and eventually became a high school science teacher. But , whenever time and opportunity allowed, she loved to take painting classes. Some of her favorite paintings come from that era.  Work and family obligations sometimes required that her interest in art be put aside for a while, but she always went back to it when it became possible to do so.

Upon retiring, one of Nancy's goals was to get back into painting and to develop her interest in other media and in less representational art. When scouting for a retirement home, Nancy and her husband were very impressed with the Sun City Visual Arts Club, the studio facilities, and the classes offered. That was an important factor in their decision to move to Sun City, Texas.

Since moving here three years ago, Nancy has expanded her interests in watercolor, acrylic, collage, and design. It is difficult to characterize her paintings as being of a certain type because she loved to experiment with something new. She is, however, definitely an impressionist who loves color. She continues to develop  her artistic side and loved the many opportunities available in Georgetown to do so.
