Kay Webster’s inspiration to learn to paint came from a scene out a farm house window in Missouri – a field of golden flax surrounded by lush green vegetation lit-up by the setting sun passing over it - “I wish I could paint that!” Eight years later a friend in Oklahoma, Karen Ball, taught her to paint with oils. Having grown up on a farm in Oklahoma with wide open spaces, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, Kay mainly paints landscapes but recently has done several floral paintings.
In the initial stages of a painting Kay haphazardly brushes on many colors from her palette, then studies to see if a shape or design stands out. This is how she gets such varied colors in her paintings, resulting in some unusual designs. This technique was learned from club member, Gene Inman, called “Developing a Painting with No Preconceived Subject in Mind”.
Kay has been a member of the Visual Arts Club since 1998 and hopes you will enjoy finding the “unexpected” in her paintings. She and her husband, Don, have lived in Sun City for eight years and have loved every minute of it.
