Featured Artist for : February 2006

Katherine always knew she could paint and draw, but a family and working always kept her busy.  When her children were teens, she decided to see what she could do.  She began with extension courses in art at the University of Houston.  She took courses for several years from well-known and experienced artists and teachers in the Houston area.  In time, she opened her own studio and taught for many years.  She also taught at other studios and gave workshops in East Texas and the Gulf Coast.  She has worked in watercolor, pastels, acrylics and oil.  Her passion is for oil painting.  She feels that only in oils can you project what is in your mind and heart.  In retirement she has continued to paint and teach at the Art Studio in Sun City.  Her first love is teaching beginners.  The joy a new artist shows in his first finished painting is worth millions!
