Feature Artist Don Stephens

Don Stephens is one of those increasing rare Texans who is native to the state. He grew up in a small central Texas town, went to high school in Abilene, college at Texas Tech and enjoyed 6 years in Corpus Christi. Later, he and his wife, Marlene, made their home in San Antonio for 35 years before moving to Sun City in 2004.

Don still uses film cameras and is in no hurry to convert to digital; he figures “If it ain’t broke, why fix it?” He worked in his own B&W wet darkroom for several years but slides are his mainstay and his collection numbers into the thousands dating back to 1960. At Sun City, he has learned digital editing and printing using Adobe Photoshop Elements and an Epson 1280 printer. It’s all pretty basic equipment, but it gets the job done.
