Local artist George Baumgarn and his wife Linda moved to Sun City Texas from Punta Gorda, Florida to enjoy the lifestyle of Austin and the Hill Country and to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  He is a member of the Sun City Visual Arts Club and the Williamson Art Guild.

George, encouraged by his wife Linda, retired from advertising and decided to pursue his lifelong dream to paint.  He feels strongly that it is important to express yourself in your own artistic style.  His powerful painting is expressed though the use of different shaped palette knives.

“In every painting I pour my heart and soul into creating it.  My work is about an attitude.  I love color.  I love to paint with passion and with emotion.  This is why I use the Palette Knife. I let the gestures of the knife create bold textures and movement.  I use thick juicy strokes and swirling mounds of oil paint on the canvas to create a spontaneous energetic feeling.  My work is expressionistic.”

In addition to his love of painting, George is a avid race fan.  He has painted a series of NASCAR racing champions.  George graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in advertising design and spent 38 years in the field winning many national and international graphic awards.  Just recently he won the competitions for the Sun City News and Views logo and the Visual Arts Club logo.

The Sun City Texas Visual Arts Club is fortunate to have George as a creative and enthusiastic member.
